Das Weingut: Cantele

Unweit der Gemeinde Guagnano im Herzen des Salento befindet sich die Kellerei Cantele. Gianni, Paolo, Umberto und Luisa, die Kinder der beiden Gründer, führen heute das Unternehmen. Voller Begeisterung haben sie die Philosophie ihrer Väter übernommen: Die Konzentration auf die autochthonen Traubensorten und auf die stringente Reduzierung des Ertrags im Weinberg. Im Focus stehen die Vorzeigerebsorten Apuliens. Bei den Roten dominieren eindeutig Negroamaro und Primitivo, sortenrein in der Basislinie vinifiziert. Auch die Weißweine Chardonnay und Verdeca zeigen hier ihr ureigenstes Profil. Bei der Weinlinie Rohesia werden vorzugsweise alte Vinifizierungstechniken eingesetzt. Hier überraschen Malvasia Bianco, ein Rosato Negroamaro und die äußerst seltene Rebsorte Susumaniello. Ein Sonderstellung nimmt der Wein der Linie Teresa Manara ein. Die Chardonnay Varietäten und der Negroamaro sind eine hommage an die Großmutter der heutigen Betreiber. Mit ihrer Leidenschaft und visionären Einstellung hat Teresa Manara wesentlich zum heutigen Erfolg beigetragen. Auf der anderen Seite des Salento zum ionischen Meer hin befinden sich die Weinberge der Fanoi Linie. Fanoi Primitivo und Fanoi Negroamaro IGT überzeugen mit seltener Intensität. Die besondere Einzellage dieser Rotweine bringt tiefgängige und facettenreiche Weine hervor und gelten als echte Meisterstücke der Cantina. Dass die Kellerei aber nicht nur reinsortig kann, beweist der Amativo Rosso IGT. Auf der Suche nach neuen Interpretationen entstand eine wunderbare Cuvée der beiden klassischen Autochthonen des Salento. Mit diesem Sortiment, das seinen terroirtypischen Charakter nie verleugnet, entwickelte sich die Cantina Cantele zu einer der interessantesten Kellereien Apuliens. Und das zu einem bemerkenswerten Preis-Leistungsverhältnis!

Die Geschichte der Weinkellerei beginnt in den 50er-Jahren mit der Geschichte zweier Auswanderer in die andere Richtung. Gerade von Süditalien aus suchen viele Menschen ihr Glück in den Industriestädten des Nordens. Anders der Weinhändler Giovanni Battista Cantele. Er hatte gemeinsam mit seiner Frau Teresa Menara bislang den Süden Italiens mehrmals jährlich auf seinen Weineinkaufstouren bereist. Fasziniert vom Salento und seinen Weinen beschließen sie, vom Veneto ganz nach Apulien zu ziehen. Die beiden Söhne Augusto und Domenico gründen 1979 die Kellerei. Zunächst beschränkten sich die Brüder auf das Abfüllen und den Vertrieb apulischer Weine. Bald aber begannen sie, Weinberge in den besten Lagen Apuliens aufzukaufen. Besonders Augusto, der am Forschungsinstitut für Weinbau in Conegliano (Veneto) studiert hatte, konnte sich als Önologe einbringen. Seit Ende der 90er-Jahre bewirtschaftet die Azienda Agricola 50ha eigene und 150ha dazu gepachtete Weinberge. Dabei setzte auch die 2. Generation auf sortentypische Weine des Salento, vor allem auf die Vorzeigereben Primitivo und Negroamaro. 2003 wurde in Guagnano eine neue und moderne Kellerei gebaut, die die Philosophie der Gründer unterstützt. Insbesondere auf dem Gebiet innovativer Biotechnologien hat sich die Cantina einen Namen gemacht. 2004 startete Cantele unter Führung des Agronomen Cataldo Ferrari und unter Mitwirkung der landwirtschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität Bari ein „programma agronomica“. Hier wird der Umweltgedanken beim Weinbau in den Fokus gerückt. Giovanni, Paolo, Umberto und Luisa, Enkel des „Auswanderers“, leiten heute das Unternehmen und sind mehr denn je der Region Apulien verbunden. Auch sie haben wesentlich dazu beigetragen, das Image süditalienischer Weine aufzuwerten.
